Monday, November 7, 2011 at 01:41PM Jack Abramoff: The lobbyist's playbook
Most of us remember in horror the scandal surrounding Jack Abramoff. In this 60 Minutes interview with Abramoff we learn from the source just how corrupt Washington, DC has become. No matter what your political persuasion is, it should be clear that the influence of money in politics isn't an issue of a partisan nature. In fact, it is largely known to those of us who have seen the inter workings of Washington that things only occur under two scenarios; politics, and money. The influence of power (and thereby re-election) has corrupted many of those who have gone to represent us. Even those that have the best intentions have a hard time overcoming this pull.
If there is anything that I do agree with Abramoff on it is this: "Our system is flawed and has to be fixed" and "The people who make the reforms are the people in the system" We as citizens must stand together and not divided. Those in power and inside what has become a large political machine of consultants, lobbyists, campaign managers, pollsters, have created a lucrative system that feeds off our division. Those in charge want us to be distracted from fixing this deeply flawed system. Let's learn from this lobbyist's playbook and take the steps we need to take to make sure that this never happens again.
